This kitchen/dining floor plan was narrowed at the kitchen end by an existing stairwell wall. This construction anomaly also created a difference in counter height, presumably to accomodate the staircase header.
The Client wanted to extend the kitchen counter to wrap around the staircase wall. Because of the height difference, custom cabinetry would have been needed, and this was not cost-effective for such a small area. By re-checking the header requirements, we were able to shorten it, enabling all counters to be at standard height. More importantly, we were able to save this Client $4,000!
The make-over included creating an 'entertainment counter' with new cabinets, backsplash, swap out of the faucet, and new hardwood floors. Bead board was put up along the dining area walls and wrapped into the new cabinets for a fresh, uniform look.
